PRLog (Press Release)– Jul 07, 2011– New Delhi, July 7, 2011 – HP today underscored its commitment for growth in India through a series of new initiatives designed to deliver seamless, secure, context-aware print experiences in a connected India. Vyomesh Joshi, Executive Vice-President, HP Imaging and Printing Group, speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, signalled the increased focus on this important market and shared the company's new vision and strategy to leverage the 120 billion pages opportunity1 in India in the next three years.

Underpinning India's importance as an important market and its growing significance while driving innovation at HP IPG, Joshi said, "Our business is accelerating with India as a key growth engine. We are more committed than ever to growing our business in India. India's printing industry is transforming and we are driving it from the front with our innovation. As part of its three-year growth strategy, the company is strengthening its geo-expansion programs to optimize India's rapidly growing and young consumer opportunities in non-metro and upcountry markets. The other key growth driver for IPG in India is the education sector, which will be a key focus for investment, especially to create synergies that build greater relevance for printing through content providers that drive the need to print more. India's emergence as one of the fastest growing economies in the world, with one of the youngest consumer demographics, lies at the heart of this new focus on education, he said.

The company's India R&D hub for imaging and printing is leading critical innovation around web connected and cloud printing. The team has made significant contributions to the web-connected printer program, including key innovation such as the development of email printing capability (ePrint), bringing that to the market in July 2010. The team has also been involved in developing the first version of IPG's web platform and the first set of applications for low-end consumer printers allowing users to undertake paper-triggered web tasks.

"Innovation at HP is today allowing consumers to leverage the Web and ecommerce applications to simplify transactional activities, increase productivity and enriching lifestyles," said Vyomesh Joshi.

Other key announcements

HP underlined its commitment to grow its business in India with a number of other announcements recently. In March, the company said one of HP's key priorities will be to deliver unique and innovative market-specific solutions to customers in key markets like India.

In line with this strategy, the company announced in mid-June that Vyomesh Joshi, Executive Vice President, Imaging and Printing Group, would lead all cross-business initiatives focused on expanding HP's market share in India. This announcement was preceded by Neeraj Sharma's appointment as Vice-President of HP IPG India earlier this year to lead growth for HP IPG in India.

Survey Reveals Small Businesses are Putting Themselves at Unnecessary Risk

based IT solutions firm axon IT, has revealed that many small businesses are putting themselves at unnecessary risk by neglecting their data backup.

More than 500 business owners took part in the survey, which found that a quarter of SMEs have no data backup solution in place. Of the businesses that do, less than 30% run backups on a daily basis and 10% backup "as and when they remember". More than a third admitted to having no idea how long it would take to restore their company data in the event of a loss.

Graham Fern, Technical Director for axon IT said: "The figures are really quite worrying. By having no backup solution in place, these businesses are literally setting themselves up to fail. If a full data loss was experienced – whether it be through a hardware failure, system corruption, theft or fire, then there would be no means whatsoever of recovering that data. Files, records, emails, customer data, financials – gone. It would be practically impossible for a business to recover from that."

Fern continued; "Having a backup solution in place is a necessity, but like anything else it needs to be maintained if it's going to be effective. Backups need to run regularly – at least once a day – and need to be checked and restored to ensure everything is functioning correctly."

The survey went on to expose the fact that 30% of those surveyed did not know how long it would take to get their business back up and running if their premises were destroyed, highlighting that business continuity planning is not a priority for many people.

Fern added; "A business continuity plan needn't be all singing all dancing, but business owners should have some basic idea of what they would do if their offices became unusable. It's something we don't like to think about, but fire, flood, theft and equipment failure do all happen and it is a business owner's responsibility to put a plan of action together outlining what they would do in the event of such a disaster. Aspects such as alternative premises, telecom and broadband connectivity, hardware replacement and of course, data recovery, should all be considered.

"Although it is comforting to see that most businesses are taking data backup seriously, the number of companies running without backup is extremely worrying. These businesses are like ticking time bombs. We would advise any firm without backup to speak to their IT provider immediately about secure offline backup – the most reliable and effective way to secure your data. Failing that, business owners should purchase an external hard drive or USB device and copy their critical data across immediately."axon IT is a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner with Virtualization Competency 1086274749  and Small Business Specialist, providing businesses of all sizes with an up-to-date, stable and secure infrastructure through which to run their day-to-day IT operations.
